The BNL Fans forum is meant to be a safe and fun place to come discuss the band as a community, and in order to achieve this, all users will be asked to abide by the rules outlined below. Any user that fails to follow these rules will have their permission to use the forum revoked. You will be warned once if you violate any of these rules, and a second violation will result in permanent banning from all posting privileges. This ban will be at the sole discretion of the forum moderators.
We expect you to follow common sense and standard online forum and blog etiquette. A more detailed explanation of general rules of posting etiquette is located here: www.wisegeek.com/what-is-forum-etiquette.htm
So this means:
1. No threatening, abusive or offensive language. The context of usage will be considered in enforcing this rule. A comment of "Holy shit, that concert was amazing!" will not result in punishment, while a comment of "Your opinion is always total shit" will.
2. No posts that attack, harass, insult, flame, defame or abuse others. Respect other members’ opinions and recognize that there will be dissenting viewpoints. Embracing that diversity in a mature manner allows for conversation and learning.
3. No trolling. We welcome challenging comments in context, but if a poster regularly chooses to only post inflammatory statements, it will result in a loss of posting privileges.
4. No "Steve" or specific album trolling. Members are free to prefer certain eras of BNL history, and thoughtful discussions regarding differences between albums or performances are always welcome, however, constantly posting the sentiment "Everything since (X) sucks" or “They suck without Steve” creates a hostile environment. Discussions of Steve's solo work and performances should be kept in the “Other Artists” section.
5. No spamming. Posting a link to your personal blog or website now and then to provide additional context to a discussion is fine. Posting the same link to your blog over and over again or posting links to spammy sites will not be tolerated.
6. No posting of other users' sensitive information. This includes, but is not limited to addresses, phone numbers, and other identifying information. If a user chooses to share their full name on the boards, it will not be considered sensitive information. Otherwise referring to real names should generally be avoided, and if used should be limited to first name and last initial.
7. Please be sensitive to the band's privacy. Comments about their families should be of a general nature and should not refer to private or sensitive information. For example, if a family member has a social media account that the band member has not openly asked fans to follow, do not link to it here.
8. If you see a post that violates any of the above rules, please do not respond in the thread. Notify a moderator about the post.
9. Rules are subject to change at the discretion of the forum moderators.
Moderation: It is inevitable as a function of discussion that controversial topics or comments will occasionally arise. As a member of this community, you are expected to own the words you post, therefore we suggest you approach your responses in a thoughtful and considered manner. Moderators will make every effort to avoid deleting posts, and if forced to remove a specific comment due to violations of the above rules, will leave an explanation of what was removed and the reasons for removal. If a particular discussion becomes mired down in personal attacks or circular arguments, moderators will post one clear warning regarding acceptable posting standards for that thread. Following that step, violators of those standards will be given a warning. In extreme cases of wide-spread dissent, threads may be locked down, but every effort will be made to allow open conversation.
Remember, the point of these rules and moderation in general is not to limit discussion, promote or suppress certain points of view, or any other secret agenda that you may think we have. The goal of moderation is to keep the forums enjoyable and free from drama so we can all enjoy our experience.
In conclusion, community is fostered not through specific words but actions. If a member continues to disrupt or incite conflict, even if their words are non-offensive in and of themselves, they will be banned.
