For this week's song discussion, we have chosen the bonus track "All In Good Time" from, well, All In Good Time! What are your thoughts on this song? Do you agree it should have been left off? We can't wait to hear what you think!

I don't have this cd and had to go to youtube to listen to the song for the first time. Since I don't have the cd, I can't really say how it stacks up to the other tracks or whether it should have been excluded. But my initial impression of the song was that it was pretty simplistic. Not much melody, the rhymes too easy, and the lyrics in general, not up to their creative standards. The last bit, which sounded like a round, was kind of interesting, but maybe not interesting enough to get "All In Good Time" beyond being a mediocre filler.

It's not the most complex of lyrics, and perhaps it's a bit simplistic and that's why it was cut from the album, but it's catchy and endearing in its simplicity, and I think that's what's made many of my favourite Kevin songs (I see it to be similar to Sound of Your Voice in style. When they first premiered the song live, Kevin didn't play the opening riff and Ed stopped the song to force him to play it, and I think that riff is a bit part of what makes the song work along with the half-time drum outro that just shifts the feeling of the song. Perhaps it's just the production of the recording that I like, but I really like this song, and I prefer it to a song like Jerome which I don't have a good name for - sort of a story-song, but one that is so specific that I just don't connect personally with the song at all.

I was able to hear this song live for the first time this fall tour. I really love the sweet lyrics. I think it is a song about enjoying life, telling you to sit back and enjoy the ride. I'm not sure why it was left off the album. I'm not sure there is always a good reason for that other than space? I'm just glad they finally performed it.

"All in Good Time" is one of my favorites from AIGT! Use it as a soundtrack to my photo slideshows.
Enjoying and observing the simple things in life around us is a recurring theme in many of Kevin's songs. Another favorite is "This Is It" from Mothball Mint. Just Kevin singing and playing piano.
"When I woke up this morning It was a beautiful, beautiful morning There was: Fresh better melting on a waffle
The sky so blue the clouds felt awful Beavers swimming around their hut and Someone was building a mini-putt What else?
There was a bull rush brown Like a toasty marshmallow Bullfrogs singing like some weird kind of cello Fish jump up for a flippity-flip
Oh, what is life? This is it..."
I believe it was Benny Hill who said: "Enjoy each day as it may be your last, because one day you'll be right!"
